Crex Meadows Youth Conservation Camp Stories...
John S. developed such a great relationship with a few of the DNR employees this past summer that he has decided to pursue a biology and/or forestry degree after completing high school. Not too long ago, college wasn't a realistic goal for John, now it is a reality.
The following is a quote from Joe, "I am still at Stevens Point and I'm double majoring in Wildlife-Ecology and Management as well as in Biology. I also have a minor in Water Resources. I currently have a GPA of 3.92. Crex was a great experience and it helped me get a job last year with the forest service out in Utah working on a Fisheries Biology crew".
Amber, nicknamed Giggles by her fellow campers, credits the Crex Meadows Camp for her increased love, interest and best of all A's in her high school science classes. She mentioned there have been many times in classes where she thought "I learned that at camp".
Jeremy G. showed such an enormous improvement in personality and attitude after camp that his Special Education teacher called Camp Director , Brad Gingras to learn more about the activities, classes, but more importantly the strategies and methods used to make Jeremy come "out of his shell".
Shane K, a foster child who has lived with numerous families, had a poor work ethic during his first week of camp. After developing a strong relationship with the camp staff his work ethic became a huge strength. Shane quickly earned the respect of his fellow peers and worked his way right into Camper of the Day 2 times in the final week of his camp session.
