2008 Northwest Wisconsin Business Development Conference! Crex Meadows Youth Conservation Camp
The Crex Meadows Youth Conservation Camp, located in Grantsburg , WI , has been making a difference in the lives of teenagers from northwest Wisconsin for over a decade. The unique experience at Crex Meadows Camp, administered by CEP, Inc., gives young people the following opportunities: A chance to excel and learn about skills they never knew they had Receive well-deserved paychecks for working hard Earn science or elective credits at their local high school Make life-long friendships Start planning for a brighter future
During the summer of 2007, projects assigned by the Wisconsin DNR and Governor Knowles State Forest , were completed. The Wood River Interpretive Trail retaining wall is an example of these tasks. Due to a steep slope, a retaining wall and railings were built to provide a safe surface for hikers that would also reduce soil erosion. The campers worked with State Forest personnel in all aspects of the project; trail development, retaining wall and railing construction. The main crew objective was to give the campers exposure to proper trail considerations, location, and construction techniques. This task took an entire week to construct, but the final product was very rewarding for the students. Many of the campers will be inclined to visit and show off their projects for years to come.
