Success Stories = Happy Customers! 5.05.08 Starting Over... and Doing Great! When the mill I worked for shut its doors in 2006, suddenly a lot of people were unemployed. My husband and I were among the unfortunate, as we both worked at the mill. While he found a great job right away working for the railroad, it wasn't that easy for me. I was lucky enough to be hired part-time at a local credit union, but it was a substantial pay cut. I went to see an Employment Specialist at CEP with an idea that I wanted to take a course from home in Medical Transcription. After we talked for a while, she could see that I was driven to complete the course, so she decided to help me. She got me signed up for the course, and CEP paid for over 2/3 of the cost of the whole thing, including an extra fee for an internship if I passed with a score higher than 90%. It took me about 6 months of studying on nights and weekends to finish the course, and I scored 93% overall and qualified for the internship. I started that in February 2007, working from home at night and at the credit union during the day. Eventually, I improved to the point where they hired me at a starting wage that put an extra couple hundred dollars in my pocket each month. Then in October, friends were telling me about a job opening up at the hospital in town for a medical transcriptionist. For some reason, I didn't feel like they would hire me or that I had enough experience. But then my Employment Specialist e-mailed me about the job and encouraged me to apply. For some reason, hearing it from her gave me the confidence to submit my application. I was thrilled when they called me for an interview, and when they called later to offer me the job I couldn't believe it. I've been working there for 6 months now, and I absolutely love it! Not only is the pay more than I expected, but the benefits are great, and I enjoy what I'm doing. I am so grateful to the NWWIB and CEP for all their help and for my Employment Specialist's encouragement throughout the whole process.
3.28.08 Finding Work- Lisa Norman "I recently moved to the Ashland area and have been coming to the Job Center seeking employment in the area. Julie, at the front desk, has been a great help assisting me during my job search here. She helped me complete a JobFit assessment so I could apply for the jobs that best suited me according to my skills and experience. Also, she gave me additional assistance with a resume and cover letter. On my last visit Julie gave me information on a job lead which then led to a full-time position at a local hotel as a night auditor. I am happy to say I landed the job thanks to Julie and her job lead! I am so grateful for your service and that you were able to help me out!"
